When it comes to making sure that your cars, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, industrial equipment, and more, are properly protected, most of you will not spare any expense despite the fact that current economic times are tightening peoples’ financial belts across the countryside. However, many people simply don’t have a traditional garage or the finances to build one. For whatever reason, in cases such as these, going with steel frame carports just might be the way to go. The principal reasons why carports are some of the best and most practical coverings for your investments is that they are versatile and easy to set up, as well as being more affordable than traditional garages.

High quality carports can be made ahead of a wide variety of different materials such as wood, concrete, plastic, and various types of metals like aluminum and steel, but ultimately steel will give you the best quality and longest lasting carport of all the different varieties. This is because steel tends to be much heavier and more durable, and it can also withstand all the varying and extreme weather conditions and climate changes that these structures are ultimately going to be exposed to in the long run. You can also find a  steel carport that has frames that are made of galvanized steel, which is a special coating that the steel frames are dipped into to help them improve their weather resistance.

Carports can be difficult to set up if you’re not an experienced handyman or assembler. I this case you want to make sure that you hire a professional contractor to set up your carport or metal building properly. If you are confident and knowledgeable enough to assemble these types of buildings and structures yourself, you’ll want to consider going with a steel carport kit. This a non-assembled carport which can save you possibly hundreds to thousands of dollars in labor costs.

Choosing a Spacious Garage Building

If you are running out of extra space in your home to store all of your valuables, you are probably wondering what alternatives there are to renting storage space in a lot. Renting storage is costly and does not guarantee the safety of your valuables, since storage lockers are an open sign to be broken into if they are not taken care of properly. This is not to mention your belongings are always much more conveniently accessed when they are on your personal property.

The solution to your storage problem is a prefabricated garage building. Prefab garages are a great way to add extra storage to your property because they are easy to assemble, come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and make it easy to access any of your belongings whenever you want, without having to drive across town.

The size of the garage building you purchase should depend on the size of your property and whether or not you will be laying down a concrete slab for your building. Some of the more elaborate prefabricated packages include the cost of spreading concrete, so make sure you ask if you are interested in this feature. Otherwise, your building will probably include a small platform that it will be built upon.

The benefits of having a slab concrete building over a regular building is that concrete foundation garage buildings are sturdier, but they cannot be moved. If you are going this option, you want to make sure you place the building in a place where it will not need to be moved in the future. Usually, concrete foundation buildings are reserved for larger garages and shops. If your needs are smaller, such as a place to store your gardening tools, then there are other options available.

Smaller prefabricated garage buildings are usually sold in a kit by home improvement stores such a Lowe’s or Home Depot. These kits have everything you need to put your new building together, but you will need to supply the tools and extra man power. Usually a drill and a hammer is enough to get the job done, but additional tools may be required. If you are not sure about the kit you are considering purchasing, ask someone to help you.

Garage Floor Coating: How to Apply it Efficiently

Posted in Garage

Garage floor coatings are great in theory. Your garage floor is protected from dirt and grime build up, and it has a really cool glossy look to it. And this is a technique that has been used to preserve not only garage floors for decades. It not only preserves your floor, but also protects currently damaged floors from further damage. So it’s a great technique whether your floor is brand new or is a little older.

But, applying it can be a little tricky. The most common coating product is epoxy coating. This type of coating is perfect for your standard cement garage floor. It’s affordable, readily available, and is relatively easy to apply if you follow the instructions in this article.

This is the most important part of the process. I can’t emphasize how important it is for a smooth application process. Make sure the floor is clear of all debris and dirt, and treat it with a natural cleanser to bring up any current stains and discolorations before you apply the epoxy.

The second step of the cleaning process is making sure the remaining chemicals are no longer on the floor. Using your standard garden hose, you’ll be able to easily wash off any excess chemicals. And make sure to hose it down towards the open garage door.

Break out your epoxy mix and make sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions exactly as it is written. Seriously, this is not the time to be creative. Save yourself the trouble and follow the directions as they are written by the manufacturers. It is usually on the side of the container or package that the epoxy came in.

Now apply it to the floor, starting from the garage door and headed towards the door that leads to your house. Use a standard long paint roller and take your time evenly applying the epoxy over your entire floor. And don’t forget to use a narrow brush to make sure you get the edges and corners.

Time to let sit. 24 hours to be exact, before you apply the second coat which ensures the epoxy completely covers the garage and is thick enough to protect the underlying layer. Wait another 24 – 36 hours for the second coating to dry, and you’re good to go. But, wait another week before parking your car in the garage to ensure that the epoxy has fully settled.

So head down to your local hardware store and pick up your epoxy floor paint for your garage floor and get started.
