Patio Door Window Treatments
Patio doors are often a frequently used entrance to a home. Since the patio is an active part of the home, patio doors are typically opened and closed a great deal. This means active children and adults are constantly going in and out so any window treatment used on these doors needs to be durable and able to withstand a lot of activity.
In the rare instance that a patio door is not used that often, the home owner can get by with a typical drapery treatment that opens and closes over the door. However, these do not work well if the door is used frequently because the drapery treatment has to be completely open to allow the doors to swing open and the window treatment can get in the way. If the door is more of a decorative touch to a home a traditional window treatment can look very nice and allow the door to be framed nicely by the drapery fabric.
For active homes where the patio is used for entertaining and children’s activities, it is a much better idea to have a window treatment that is mounted to the door and moves with the natural opening and closing of the door itself. This prevents any overzealous child or adult from causing any damage to the window treatment. One option is to have blinds mounted to the door itself. These work well to control light and can be opened and closed as necessary for comfort and privacy. Blinds typically come in one or two inch widths and can be selected in painted colors or stained colors. They are also easily secured at the bottom to make them very durable. Synthetic or wood blinds can be obtained and both are very energy efficient and can be easily cleaned.
Another style of patio door window treatments are roman shades. These are typically constructed from fabric that is folded in such a way that it gives any room a soft look. The roman shade can be made from any fabric and there are a wide array of colors and styles to match any room décor. The look is very attractive and can be mounted to the door itself so that movement is allowed with the shade open or closed.
The primary need for a patio door window treatment is to give privacy and allow easy access to the patio area.
