Creating a sophisticated looking bedroom
There are three elements that contribute to interior design and these are the décor of a room i.e. the finishes of the wall and floors, the lighting of a room and finally the furniture in a room. You therefore will not be surprised to learn that these three principles also apply when revamping your bedroom.
The Décor
Getting the decor right is something of a personal choice but you will often be sublimely influenced by what is happening around you. A few years ago minimalist and bright and airy rooms were very popular. Now, however you will find that darker and more ornate looking interiors are more common. Rich dark colours contrasted with some lighter hues make a wonderful choice of colour for any room but particularly the bedroom as they create a feeling of sanctuary and warmth.
The Lighting
When the sun sets you want to be able to create the right sort of mood lighting, and the way to do this is to have multiple sources of light in your bedroom. Use a floor standing lamp, a couple of bedside lights and fit a dimmer to your main ceiling light and you can create the perfect ambience. Creating a sophisticated lighting scheme does not have to be difficult just think about how you can get various types of light in to your bedroom.
The Furniture
There are a few pieces of furniture that are necessary in the bedroom – such as a bed – but there are many others that you may not think of that will help to create an air of sophistication. Chairs in the bedroom often give a hotel feeling, you will find that bedroom chairs are slightly smaller than regular arm chairs but they do still take up a lot of space. If you have the space though I would highly recommend getting one as it will improve the look of your room significantly. Replacing an old bedside unit with a contemporary glass table will also help to enhance the look of your room.
Creating a sophisticated bedroom is simple if you adhere to these principles you can transform a bland and boring looking room in to something that is really quite special. You don’t even have to spend the earth doing it – keep an eye out in charity shops and ebay for lighting and furniture – you would be surprised at what you can find.
Five Tips to Keep your Interior Fresh
Home interiors are a very personal thing but it is fair to say that regardless of style most people like to have a change around every so often. You might think that this has to be a lavish affair that is going to cost you a lot of money, however if you decorate your home in the right manner it needn’t cost a lot at all. Here are five tips to keep your interior looking fresh with out having to break the bank:
- Keep the fixed decorative items neutral.
In terms of wall colours and wall papers keep the colour scheme neutral, this means that you can add coloured accessories and easily change the overall appearance of your room. - Use rugs
Rugs can say a lot about a persons home, more importantly though they are a great way of getting some personality and a splash of colour in to any room. If you have kept your décor neutral then any rug should go in your home. - Have interesting furniture
Obviously to a certain extent furniture has to be practical, but try and step away from the norm – everyone can go to their local home store and pick up a new bit of furniture. What about getting something different? What about getting something unique? You could either renovate some of your own furniture – painted furniture can look great, or you could by a unique piece of reproduction furniture from an auction centre. - Have lighting that has changeable shades
Being able to change the shades on you lighting fixtures will not only change the way that the light fitting looks, it will also change the light that is given out by the light. Changing the lighting in your room can have a dramatic effect. - Own a room screen
A room screen is one of the most flexible pieces of furniture that you can own, they can hide clutter, create privacy and easily partition off rooms. Room screens can also act as beautiful pieces of art that become a focal point in any room. The fact that they are portable means that you can very easily move them around the room when you get bored!
