Why Lots of Small Businesses are Buying Used Office Furniture

July 26, 2010 · Posted in Home Business · Comment

There are now several stores that offer businesses or individuals the opportunity to buy second hand office furniture. Why would anyone want something that had already been used? The simple answer is that it’s cheaper than buying it brand new.

Generally, the quality and the condition of used furniture can vary, so it’s important that you inspect it properly before buying. Office chairs are the one item that should be inspected the most thoroughly, since they are often the ones that pick up the most damage.

The main reason why it’s mainly small businesses buying used office furniture is because it’s not as readily available as new furniture is. By this I mean that if you want to buy something brand new for your office you can simply order it from an office furniture outlet. It doesn’t matter how many items you need (you might be filling an entire office) – they’ll more than likely have whatever you need.

Now compare this with most used furniture stores – the kinds that pick up furniture that other offices are throwing away. Because these stores only have what people give them (or what other offices don’t want any more) they can often have a limited supply of stock. This isn’t usually a problem for small businesses (who don’t need a lot) but if you’re a larger company and you want your offices to be filled with matching furniture than this does pose a problem.

So where do you buy used office furniture from? There are several online stores (most of which can be found with a simple Google search) that supply second hand furniture at a reduced rate (sometimes up to 50% of what you’d pay for it brand new). Because of the nature of furniture (i.e. it being fairly large) it is best that you try and find a store that is close to you or your business, since this will help reduce delivery costs.

Choosing the Right Baby Nursery Furniture

July 23, 2010 · Posted in Indoor Furniture · Comment

When preparing for the arrival of a new baby, you will need to make a few key decisions.  One of the most important decisions you will make is the type of baby nursery furniture you should purchase or add to your baby register.  In shopping for baby items you will quickly discover that there are endless possibilities and many factors to consider.  Budget restrictions tend to get in the way when it comes to determining which crib set is the best value for your money.  Yes the ticket price does matter but only if you have first determined that a set is going to be durable, safe, and functional for your baby for many years.

There are certain crib sets that can give you more years of use than others.  Such cribs are known as a convertible crib or 3 in 1 and 4 in 1.  A 4 in 1 crib is by far the best value you can get because it converts from an infant crib to a toddler bed.  Eventually you can also convert it from a toddler’s bed to a single bed.  The fourth conversion option is by far the most beneficial because it also offers you the option of converting the unit into a daybed.  A daybed can be used in a den, guest room, or office.  A 3 in 1 bed offers the same benefits with the exception of the daybed conversion.

The right baby nursery furniture set for your new arrival will be one that can grow with your baby as he or she reaches milestones in development.  You want a set that is made with durable and preferably real wood materials.  You should also check the hardware on the furniture pieces to ensure that they are sturdy and up to the test of time.  Wheels, knobs, brackets, and other components should be made with a good, durable material such as metal.  Most nursery sets include the crib, changing table, dresser, and some even include a rocker with an ottoman for feedings and rocking baby to sleep.  You can find many variations of this as well as many stores that sell each piece separately so you can build your own nursery according to your taste and baby needs.

Home interiors are a very personal thing but it is fair to say that regardless of style most people like to have a change around every so often. You might think that this has to be a lavish affair that is going to cost you a lot of money, however if you decorate your home in the right manner it needn’t cost a lot at all. Here are five tips to keep your interior looking fresh with out having to break the bank:

  1. Keep the fixed decorative items neutral.
In terms of wall colours and wall papers keep the colour scheme neutral, this means that you can add coloured accessories and easily change the overall appearance of your room.
  2. Use rugs
Rugs can say a lot about a persons home, more importantly though they are a great way of getting some personality and a splash of colour in to any room. If you have kept your décor neutral then any rug should go in your home.
  3. Have interesting furniture
Obviously to a certain extent furniture has to be practical, but try and step away from the norm – everyone can go to their local home store and pick up a new bit of furniture. What about getting something different? What about getting something unique? You could either renovate some of your own furniture – painted furniture can look great, or you could by a unique piece of reproduction furniture from an auction centre.
  4. Have lighting that has changeable shades
Being able to change the shades on you lighting fixtures will not only change the way that the light fitting looks, it will also change the light that is given out by the light. Changing the lighting in your room can have a dramatic effect.
  5. Own a room screen
A room screen is one of the most flexible pieces of furniture that you can own, they can hide clutter, create privacy and easily partition off rooms. Room screens can also act as beautiful pieces of art that become a focal point in any room. Replacing the Mattress for Your Single Futon Bed

May 23, 2010 · Posted in Indoor Furniture · Comment

Futons make a great addition to any home or apartment.  Because you can use them as a sofa or as a bed, they save space and reduce clutter.  Unfortunately, if you get enough of use out of your futon, the mattress eventually wears out.  When this happens, you’re left with a lumpy mattress that you can feel the supports of the futon through.  If this happens to your single futon bed, you’re going to have to replace your mattress.  Here are two major options you have for replacing your mattress.

The cheapest mattress that you can replace your old futon mattress with is a layered mattress.  Layered mattresses are fairly firm, which doesn’t make for a good night’s sleep for many people, but have the benefit of being extremely cheap.  If your futon is only going to be used occasionally, this is the best option.  You might not like sleeping on it for a long time, but for short-term guests it works in a pinch.  These mattresses are essentially made of foam and batting that is laid out in layers and then covered.

If your futon is going to be used more long-term such as if you’re living in a studio apartment and want to save on some space you have another option for your futon mattress.  It is called a coiled spring mattresses.  These mattresses are made of coiled springs, just like normal beds are.  The only difference is that in the middle of the mattress there is a break in the middle that allows you to bend it.  The bend goes in the corner of the futon frame when you pop it up into a bed.  These mattresses are extremely comfortable to sleep on and come in many different sizes and styles.

Whatever you choose as the mattress to replace your existing futon bed, you’ll have a great functional piece of furniture that’s more comfortable than ever.

Fabric Co-ordination in the Bedroom

May 8, 2010 · Posted in Interior Design · Comment

The off-the-beaten path rooms of a home are often the most interesting, these rooms are for the family, and the public is rarely invited. Here the family can relax amongst their favorite things, and live in their favorite style. They do not have to impress anyone. The bedroom is such a room. This is where the family can keep their favorite furniture.

A well-decorated room like the bedroom is best when it is clean and well-coordinated. In order for you to do this, you need to select pieces that match each other. While they may be different items but they should belong together, like small pieces in a puzzle. In a fabric matching bedroom – king quilt usually determines the theme of the room because it has  the widest area in the room.

Some people don’t like matching colors and so what you can do is to pick at least 3 colors from your bed sheet and work with that. If you got fuchsia, yellow and green colors, then you could buy accessories for your bedroom, little by little with those three in mind. Add a curtain in stripes, the fabric covering for bedside portable end tables in floral, and the lampshades could be in solid color. Matching prints is easier if there is a color guide.

Make sure that your spare bed sheets and fabric covering for bedside end tables, also match the ones that you have now. That way, if your guests need an extra blanket or pillow case, they would still go with the rest of your bedroom.

You can also add other textures into your room. For example you can match wooden furniture with metal hardware like your coat hanger, or cabinet door handles. Taking small details like these add to the finishing touches.

Having a fabric matching bedroom which is based at the beginning on the king quilt fabric is easy as long as you focus on one design or color scheme at a time.
