Replacing the Mattress for Your Single Futon Bed
Futons make a great addition to any home or apartment. Because you can use them as a sofa or as a bed, they save space and reduce clutter. Unfortunately, if you get enough of use out of your futon, the mattress eventually wears out. When this happens, you’re left with a lumpy mattress that you can feel the supports of the futon through. If this happens to your single futon bed, you’re going to have to replace your mattress. Here are two major options you have for replacing your mattress.
The cheapest mattress that you can replace your old futon mattress with is a layered mattress. Layered mattresses are fairly firm, which doesn’t make for a good night’s sleep for many people, but have the benefit of being extremely cheap. If your futon is only going to be used occasionally, this is the best option. You might not like sleeping on it for a long time, but for short-term guests it works in a pinch. These mattresses are essentially made of foam and batting that is laid out in layers and then covered.
If your futon is going to be used more long-term such as if you’re living in a studio apartment and want to save on some space you have another option for your futon mattress. It is called a coiled spring mattresses. These mattresses are made of coiled springs, just like normal beds are. The only difference is that in the middle of the mattress there is a break in the middle that allows you to bend it. The bend goes in the corner of the futon frame when you pop it up into a bed. These mattresses are extremely comfortable to sleep on and come in many different sizes and styles.
Whatever you choose as the mattress to replace your existing futon bed, you’ll have a great functional piece of furniture that’s more comfortable than ever.
