5 Reasons Why People Hate Cleaning Gutters

June 30, 2011 · Posted in Cleaning · Comment

Of all the household chores within the house, there is one particular chore that most people hate to do, and that is gutter cleaning. Here are several reasons why most people prefer scooping up dog poop, rather than cleaning gutters.

1) Gutter cleaning can be very dangerous. Cleaning your gutters involves constantly going up and down the ladder. It also involves reaching out and extending your arms and body to farther sections of the gutters to accomplish more work in a less amount of time. If you fall out of balance, you would most likely end up with a scrape or a bruise. But if you fall from a really tall height and down to your concrete ground… well, you get the picture.

2) Cleaning your gutters requires a good amount of time. It is not something that can be accomplished in an hour. It takes a good part of your day to cover all gutters surrounding your entire roof. It will deprive you of other things you would rather do, like spending the weekend out with friends. After cleaning, you are usually too tired to do anything else.

3) Cleaning your gutters requires a great deal of effort and endurance. It is a task that will test your patience and stamina. Gutter cleaning involves removing all the debris that have accumulated inside your gutters, scraping and scrubbing grime, mold, mildew and sticky goo, as well as fixing clogged up drain pipes or downspouts. Gutter cleaning also requires a sharp eye that can easily detect signs of breaks in your gutters. It is an exhausting job that will leave you over-fatigued at the end of the day.

4) Gutter cleaning must be perfectly timed, and not done randomly. It can be sometimes frustrating to wait for the perfect day to do your gutter cleaning, because you can’t just pick any day to engage in this activity. You should choose a day that is fair-weathered, neither too hot nor rainy. It should also be done when you have no other existing work or other engagements, such as a weekend.

5) Cleaning your gutters requires the right gutter cleaning tools to make it successful. Without the right tools, your work will be slower, harder and inefficient. You need to spend some money to purchase the right tools, unless you’re creative and resourceful enough to improvise your tools on your own.

Most of us hate cleaning our gutters, but no matter how we feel about it, we do it anyway. We know its importance in maintaining our homes clean and long-lasting. Always remember though, that no matter how hard a particular task seems to be, a positive attitude will help us tackle the unpleasant hurdles of life.

Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring cleaning is the toughest cleaning job during a year. While some of you wish to hire professional services, most of you have to do it by your own hands. For a house that is too big for cleaning, it is impossible to clean every place and corner thoroughly. You need to focus  your cleaning in certain areas.

This first thing to focus on is stain removal. The places that have most stains would be your kitchen and bathroom. The high traffic and usage of the kitchen and bathroom make them prone to stain accumulation.

Whenever you clean your kitchen, you should start off with your rangehood and hob. With just a glance, you will notice that there is a layer of grease covering the rangehood and hob. To ease your cleaning work a bit, you can place a plastic wrap over the oil collector of the rangehood. As most of the oil is trapped by the plastic wrap, you can clean your rangehood more efficiently.

People usually turn the rangehood off before their cleaning. In fact, you can turn it on. Then spray the rangehood cleaner onto the fan. When the fan is spinning, the resulted centrifugall force helps soften and remove the grease. When you turn the rangehood off, you just need to do a little wipe clean.

Bathroom is another focus for your spring cleaning. Bathroom is very humid which facilitates the growth of spots and mold. You have to pay special attention whilst cleaning the floor, toilet bowl and bathtub. Water alone is insufficient to clean the bathroom properly. You may need to buy specific bathroom cleaners, stain removers and sanitizers.

For living room and bedroom, the  focus of cleaning should be put on windows, carpet, floor, sofa and curtain. It is because these are the most eye-catching things in your living room and bedroom. With certain materials of upholstery, dry cleaning is required. You may need to plan ahead with the cleaning schedule, so it does not hinder your spring cleaning.

Cleaning is not just removing the visible dirt from your house. You should also take the chance to organize everything in your house in a systemic way. Also, be ready to throw away unnecessary items. These unnecessary items may have stayed in your house for years. That means, they have taken up your precious space for many years as well. Clearing of such items helps you to get a larger space to fit your furniture.

To give a new look to your house, you have to decorate it after proper cleaning. Apply your creativity to decorate your house by adding different colors and small decorations. Creativity plays an important role for adding colors and freshness to your house. One good way to change the atmosphere of your house is to re-paint your wall with a different color.

A simple rule to remember is that a warm color gives you a warm feeling while a cold color gives you a fresh feeling. To play safe, you can always choose white.
