Mirrored Furniture – Placement is Everything
If you are looking for a way to spruce up one of the rooms in your house, be it the living room, dining room, or bedroom, with some new furniture you might consider some mirrored furniture. Over the past few years mirrored furniture has really evolved and become more sophisticated and less gaudy looking. Furniture with mirrors built into it can work to make your room appear larger than it actually is and it will also keep natural light inside and brighter if you place it in a room with lots of windows.
Even though mirrored furniture looks and sounds good to own, sometimes it comes with a price. Here’s a story of how mirrored furniture managed to wreck my living room, cost me a bundle, and ultimately turn me away from it. The disadvantages of mirrored furniture can often outweigh the benefits. It is up for you to decide whether or not to make the investment.
A friend of mine convinced me to purchase a mirrored entertainment center when I told her I needed one for my brand new high definition television set and stereo system. She’s big into antique mirrored furniture and recommended me to this antiques dealer she was familiar with. The entertainment center was massive. It had mirrored cabinet doors and mirrors all along the panels. It stood at about four feet tall and the television set could sit comfortably on top. Everything looked like it was going to work great.
After I brought the unit home and set it up I realized one of the major flaws in mirrored furniture: it reflects light. My living room is set up so that the sofa backs up against a large window that faces west. When the sun sets the room is full of natural light for a good two hours around prime time. I wasn’t thinking and now my television gets unwatchable due to the glare of the light hitting the entertainment center and reflecting off onto the screen.
In order to actually watch my television set during the peak watching times I either have to close the blinds on the window (thus making night feel like it comes much sooner) or move the furniture around. If only I had done a little research ahead of time at Mirrored Furniture Gallery to see if there were better models that maybe didn’t reflect so much light.
