An Oval Rug is a Unique Way to Accent a Room

An oval rug is somewhat more unique than its square or rectangular counterparts. Its shape is rounded on the ends, yet it can provide plenty of length for a special area in the home. There are many different uses for this type of floor covering. It can be used in many different rooms, as an accent or a main design feature in the space.

It can soften a room full of contemporary furniture, which tends to be more squarish and straight. It will break up the monotony and add a bit more interest, particularly if placed under a straight coffee table. It can help to accentuate soft curves in window treatments or lamps in the room.

This item may look great under a dining table as well. Many dining sets are similarly shaped, especially when a center leaf is added. It can give the room a more unified look and will help set the dining area apart, in homes with a more open floor plan. In a bedroom, this item will look great placed next to a bed or on either side, if the head of the bed rests against the middle of a wall.

There are many fabrics this item can be found in. The classic braided carpets are still made today and can be found in family rooms and bedrooms. They are durable and very comfortable to walk on. This item is more versatile than a cheap shag rug in the bedroom, as it will look good no matter where you put it. It will last longer and is often reversible.

While there are no two pieces alike, you can find matching items for smaller coverage, such as in front of the sink and the refrigerator. Such items look good in entries of the home, just inside the door and in long hallways as well.

Add a Splash Of Color To Your Room With Oval Rugs

If you feel that your room needs brightening up, it is very simple and relatively inexpensive to do so with small throw rugs.  A few rugs strewn around the floor, or placed under small objects will instantly add a touch of color to any room in your home.

If your main purpose is to add color to an otherwise drab room, you may want to look for rugs that are predominantly one color only. For example, red rugs will instantly add both brightness and warmth to a room. When matching colors you do not always need to stick to one color or one color set only; you can mix and match them selectively without losing the continuity of the room’s décor. A great tip when trying to find the right rug for your room is to select another object in the room such as a framed photo or a picture or poster that is hanging on the wall and choose one color present in it. Match your rugs to that one color and add another object or two around the room, such as a vase or some other decorative object that is the same shade.

Oval rugs are great for placing under items such as potted plants or tall floor standing vases. They will not only serve to brighten the room but they will also provide a layer of protection between the floor and the item. Rectangular rugs look great underneath a small coffee table.  While you do not have to match the shape of the object to the shape of the rug, it usually looks better if you do so.

While you can choose patterned rugs they do not always have the same impact in a room one that is not patterned. Being selective when choosing throw rugs to place around the room can significantly alter the room’s overall appearance, and provide protection to your floor at the same time.
