If you want to know about a particular subject, you should ask the experts.  So when we wanted to know a bit about conservatory roof blinds we decided to talk to some home improvement experts to see if they could give us a few tips on whether or not to get roof blinds for our conservatory.

The first thing we were asked was whether or not we had built our conservatory yet.  If we were still in the planning stage, we had a lot more options with regard to overhead protection for the conservatory.  ‘The first thing you should know’, one expert told us, ‘is that it is very important to have some sort of protection in the roof of your conservatory.  The sun is very strong in the summer months and is directly above a conservatory beating down on the room and its inhabitants.  By not having some sort of reflective properties in the glazing or conservatory roof blinds you are leaving yourself open to a lot of UV rays’.

Glazing options include solar controlled glass and polycarbonate glazing with solar inserts fitted.  If the conservatory is already constructed you can put a glazing window film onto the interior of the glazing that will reflect over 95% of the sun’s rays.  However conservatory roof blinds offer protection for the sun and also are an attractive accessory for the interior of the room.

Other advantage to roof blinds over other forms of glazing protection are that they offer increased privacy if it is needed from neighbouring buildings and also they give excellent shade and protection from glare during the day if you want to control the level of light entering the room.

The experts recommended that online was a great place to start looking for conservatory roof blinds.  Popular types of blinds include roller blinds and pleated blinds.  Exterior blinds can even be fitted to the outside of the structure if for some reason a homeowner does not want blinds inside the room.
