Synthetic Grass Maintenance
One of the reasons that some people have stated for wanting to replace their natural grass lawn with synthetic grass is because they feel they can no longer keep up the necessary maintenance of their lawn. This may be due to advanced age, prolonged illness or injury. Whatever the reason, the assumption is that synthetic grass maintenance is significantly less than the work required to keep your natural lawn looking good.
Environmentally speaking, there is also an argument that installing synthetic grass will reduce your impact on the environment in a couple of significant ways. The first is a reduction in the amount of water you will be required to use and the second involves the running of a lawnmower, which will be reduced to zero. Both of these factors represent maintenance tasks that no longer have to be carried out.
The fact is that the installation of synthetic grass will reduce the amount of maintenance that you will have to carry out on your yard but it won’t eliminate it completely. It will be up to the individual homeowner themselves to decide exactly how much maintenance work they are going to put into their new grass with the observation that the more work you do, the better the yard will look.
So what type of work would you be required to do on a semi-regular basis to keep you synthetic grass lawn looking good? It should be a matter of cleaning off the obvious debris that is inevitably going to get blown onto the lawn every day. Dirt, leaves, sticks and the like are going to build up and get caught in the grass fibers over time. They should be swept off with a stiff brush with an occasional hose down to wash any added build up away.
The brushing process will also help with another potential problem and that is the flattening down of the synthetic grass due to heavy traffic. A good stiff brush will allow the grass blades to be fluffed back up giving them a fresh appearance again.
The maintenance required to keep a synthetic grass lawn looking fresh and clean is nowhere near as onerous as the care required for a natural grass lawn. However, one shouldn’t install synthetic grass and then expect that it can be left neglected.
