Selecting Bar Stools for Your Breakfast Room

Breakfast rooms or nooks are often joined to the kitchen with a bar type of counter.  Other morning meal time areas are small rooms off the kitchen or main dining area, usually with plenty of windows for a pleasant view or to let in the early sunlight of the day.

If a bar or counter top exists for enjoying the morning meal, you will want the seating to look good with both the counter top used for eating and the surrounding area.  If the counter is made of marble or granite, classic styled wooden bar stools will look good.  But, they should also tie into the nearby decor.  If other furniture is made of a dark wood finish, these types of seats should be as well.  The same applies to lighter wood finishes.

If you have home accessories of a prominent color, take that into consideration too. For instance, your blue willow teapots might suggest you choose blue fabric for the stools.

Contemporary styles will work well with more contemporary dining furniture, with clean lines and a simplistic style.  They may be backless or with high backs.  This is usually a personal preference.  Simple wooden saddle style stools are one type that provide a more modern look.  They are well balanced so children will be comfortable in them as well.  They are sturdy and come in a variety of styles and finishes.

If your style is shabby chic or chic, rattan seats or those with wrought iron legs will complete the decor and will also coordinate with a variety of tables our counters.  For separate breakfast eating areas, higher seats work well with pub tables.  However, even tables of traditional height can benefit from the look of these type of seats, made for eating surfaces of lower height.

There is a wide selection of this type of seating.  Whatever your preference is, you are likely to find the right bar stools for your breakfast bar.

Choosing The Perfect Breakfast Bar

Do you feel that the dining table is not the most appropriate area to have your breakfast? Not to worry, a majority of people, myself included, feel the same way. I believe that the dining table should be reserved for more formal occasions when you have a bunch of people with whom to dine together.

So what is the alternative then? I would suggest eating at the kitchen counter. If this is not to your liking either and you have some spare space in your home, then you can consider investing in a furniture set which includes a breakfast bar and stools.

It doesn’t have to be anything elaborate and outrageously expensive. You can find a basic mission breakfast bar that sits 2 people for under $200. Of course, breakfast bars can come in a variety of designs so it is important to do your homework and research the available options, keeping in mind that practicality and aesthetic appeal are both essential factors.

Of course, you don’t have to purchase a breakfast bar set. You can instead choose to customize and purchase the bar and stools separately. As you are most likely aware of, there are several different styles you can have when it comes to wooden bar stools. The selection you make in some cases will have an impact on only the aesthetic appeal. With some of the other options, there will be a practical implication as well.

The one example I’ll focus my attention on in this article is the presence of backs. Wooden bar stools can come with backs or be backless. From an appearance point of view, the decision would be based on personal preference.

However, from a practical standpoint, the advantage of backs is that you would have a surface to lean against whilst sitting. Although backless wooden bar stools lack this feature, they can be more compact as a result.
